From the Regional Engagement Manager: new ALIA Award

It was wonderful to connect with ALIA Members at the ALIA AGM last week, with thanks to the National Library of Australia for their generous hosting. Read more about the night’s networking, welcomes, farewells and fellowships here.

I’m writing this from Western Australia, where I’ve just finished hosting an event with the ALIA West Group at the wonderful City of Perth Library. A series of lightning talks were delivered to an audience of 90 people – read more about this event, and the trip to the West (as well as see some photos) here.

In this edition of ALIA News, I’d like to highlight the launch of the SALIAs - the inaugural South Australian merit prize, hosted by the ALIA SA Group, celebrates the achievements of an ALIA member working in the library and information profession in South Australia. This is just one of ALIA’s awards, scholarships and grants, there are many opportunities for the ALIA community to recognise excellence in professional practice and research within the field of library and information management.

I'd also like to promote the fantastic ALIA Mentoring Scheme - applications for the 2023 intake of the ALIA Mentoring Scheme are now open and will close on June 23rd. This 12-month formal program can be a great career boost for mentees and mentors alike. I’ve previously been an ALIA Mentor and it’s a wonderful experience.

Finally, if you’re in the Brisbane area on June 21st, there will be a chance to catch-up and at Poppies on South Bank from 4:30pm –6:30pm. Chat libraries as an alternative to the State of Origin Game which is also happening that evening in Brisbane...
