From the Regional Engagement Manager: Trivia! Quiz! Fun!

For those lucky enough to live in Adelaide or Brisbane, there’s still time to secure tickets to the upcoming ALIA SA Back-2-School Quiz Night or the ALIA QLD ‘Sourcey Subjects’ Trivia Night. These are events not to be missed, and every good library & information professional should have these in their social calendar (of course ‘library lovers’ are also encouraged to attend). Competitions, prizes, entertainment and fun – not to mention raising funds for the much-loved ALIA QLD Mini-Conference and the inaugural SALIAs.

Those in Perth can save the date for the ALIA West annual Quiz Night too – this will be held on November 6th. Bring your friends and family as everyone is welcome, organise your table of 6, and choose a team name. More details soon.

I recently visited Flinders University Library and spoke about next month’s IFLA WLIC with Liz Walkley Hall; learned about the Special Collections from Mary Clare O’Brien; and caught-up with Sara Altmann. Sara has recently concluded her term with the ALIA New Generation Advisory Committee (NGAC) and encourages those at the beginning of their library career to join the NGAC committee. This is an excellent opportunity to connect with others; provide advice direct to the ALIA Board to assist in shaping ALIA’s strategic direction; and develop skills in project management, leadership, research, social media and online community development.

Finally, this State Library Victoria & ALIA hosted Library & Information Week Where's the Source event deserves a shout out! Hear from Dr Elizabeth Tait (Course Director and Senior Lecturer in Information Studies at Charles Sturt University), Paula Bray (Chief Digital Officer, State Library Victoria), and Dr Amanda Lawrence (RMIT research fellow and President of Wikimedia Australia), who will explore the latest AI tools and advances, and their role in the library sector.
