Library Technicians

Library Technicians are skilled professionals trained in vocational education training programs around Australia and are a vital part of the library and information sector.

The ALIA Library Technicians put on a biennial symposium for library technicians around Australia:

  • 2017 Symposium was held in Sydney at The Australian Catholic University in North Sydney from 27 to 29 September 2017.
  • 2019 Symposium, Melbourne, took place from 13-15 November 2019 with the theme 'Discover, Diversify, Dive In.'

ALIA’s Library Technician groups also put on many professional and social events throughout the year. You can find information about the groups on the ALIA groups page.

Each year on the Tuesday of Library and Information Week, library and information services around Australia celebrate library technicians on National Library Technicians Day. This day provides an opportunity for library technicians to promote ALIA, the profession, and their role in libraries and to celebrate their many achievements.
