Human Rights: make Australia's voice heard

Call to action

2018 is the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the United Nations is calling for the people of the world to show their support for the Declaration by uploading their own video.

In the lead-up to the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in December 2018, join us in standing up for human rights. Human rights are everyone's rights. Help spread the word, in your own language.

Record yourself reading one of the 30 articles of the Declaration in any of the 144 languages currently available on this site and share your video with your friends.

Our goal is to raise awareness of the Declaration by collecting and promoting videos of as many articles as possible in as many languages as possible.

Thank you for participating. It starts with you. #StandUp4HumanRights #RightsOutLoud

By 16 August 2018, there were only 13 video recordings from Australia and we know we can make a big difference by promoting the campaign through libraries.

Five ways ALIA Members can make a difference

1 Promote and attend events on 10 December: the National Library of Australia and several State Libraries are planning to host talks
2 Join the conversation online using the hashtags #STANDUP4HUMANRIGHTS and #RightsoutLoud
3 Record yourself reading one or more of the Articles and upload your video to the UN website
4 For public libraries: use these exercises for conversation classes
5 For schools: use these exercises in school libraries

Target 100

Our aim is for 100 Australian videos on the UN website by 10 December, 2018 - please help us achieve it.
