Australia's libraries support fair use

Canberra, Thursday, 22 December, 2016:  The Australia Library and Information Association (ALIA) supports the Productivity Commission's (PC) recommendation to adopt a flexible fair use exception in Australia.

Earlier this week the PC issued its report - Intellectual Property Arrangements.

ALIA also supports the report’s recommendations to:
● extend Australia’s existing safe harbour provision to all online service providers, including libraries;
● protect copyright exceptions from being overridden by contract and technological protection measures;
● limit liability for the use of orphan works; and
● provide open access to government funded research.

Read the media release from the Australian Libraries Copyright Committee - ALIA is a member of the ALCC.
