New report: Changing technology allows Australia’s libraries to become community hubs

Friday, 28 October, 2016:  A new report has today been released, The intrinsic value of libraries as public spaces, which was completed by Civica, IT system and business process provider, and the University of Technology Sydney's Institute for Public Policy and Governace.

The report found a very strong belief that the public libraries of the future will become community support centres and in many cases will need to be open 24/7.

The survey canvassed the views of library managers, senior staff and senior local government managers across Australia and New Zealand. Respondents agreed that the book lined library focused on silent reading and studying is definitely a thing of the past.

ALIA's Australian Public Libraries Alliance (APLA) was a contributor and supporter of this report.
