Advocacy and campaigns

Becoming a Member of ALIA supports the lobbying and advocacy activities of the Association. Together we are stronger.

When we speak with government and other funding bodies, it is with the backing of our Members. The Association is also able to speak out when our members individually are unable to do so.

We have several annual campaigns, specially developed to provide libraries with focal points for advocacy and lobbying throughout the year. These include Library Lovers’ Day on 14 February, and National Simultaneous Storytime and Library and Information Week in May.

We are a founder partner of the Love2Read initiative, supporting The Reading Hour in August. We also run campaigns as and when they are needed, partnering with other associations and organisations in Australia and internationally.

Recent campaigns have promoted improved funding for public, school, TAFE, government and health libraries.
