ALIA Updates Interlibrary Resource Sharing Code, Freezes Fees for 2026–27

Canberra, 15 July 2026: ALIA is pleased to announce two important updates to the Interlibrary Resource Sharing (ILRS) Code, the voluntary standard that underpins interlibrary loans and document delivery across Australian libraries.

First, the recommended ILRS fees, normally adjusted annually for CPI, will not increase for 2026–27. They will instead hold at 2025–26 levels while the ALIA Resource Sharing Special Interest Group (RS SIG) reviews the fee model to better reflect current operational realities of libraries.

Second, the RS SIG has also released an updated version of the Code itself, rewritten for clarity and accessibility. The practical application of the Code is unchanged, but the language has been simplified and the fee schedule has been separated into its own document, making fees easier to identify and update in future.

As per usual, the ILRS Code is endorsed by ALIA, National and State Libraries Australasia, the Council of Australian University Libraries and the National Library of Australia, and is administered by the RS SIG.

Both documents, and more detail on the Code and resource sharing, can be found on the ALIA Resource Sharing page and in the ALIA Repository. And if you have a passion for resource sharing, the RS SIG is looking for new Committee members – expressions of interest are due by 22 July.
