Come and get some 'library love' at Mardi Gras 2024: EOIs now open

We are thrilled to announce that ALIA has been successful in securing a spot in the 2024 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade - 'Our Future.'  The parade will take place on Saturday 2 March.

This will be the third time ALIA will be appearing in the parade. After celebrating our ‘book angels’ in 2022 and busting the stereotype of the quiet librarian in 2023 we’re getting back to basics for this one with the theme of "Library Love."

"Come and get some love in the library (and not just in the stacks!). Step through our doors and you will be seen and valued. Come and feel safe in our spaces. Explore our collections that reflect a diversity of experiences and points of view. For the librarians: this is love, and with it comes a transformative power that can change minds, hearts and attitudes at a time when that sometimes seems impossible."

We march to spotlight the important role of libraries and archives for the LGBTQIA+ community and to also celebrate the many LGBTQIA+ people who work in the library sector. As we know well, libraries and librarians support and empower LGBTQIA+ individuals and communities every day via the provision of safe, welcoming spaces; free services and information; diverse, representative collections; and inclusive programs.

If you would like to be a part of the ALIA float for 2024 please fill out and submit the jotform below by Friday 1 December. Preference will be given to ALIA Members.
