Australian Library and Information Association NSS Event at the National Library of Australia

Check out some of the events that were held across Australia below:

Bede Polding College Library

Our very first time participating in this event and amongst all the activities and exams that this term brings we were able to present and enjoy this story. Being a secondary high school it was nice to introduce a literature activity where students could enjoy Australian literature without any other pressures or expectations.

Central Northern Regional Library

"While most of our 15 branches live-streamed the event with additional Story Time activities, this year we decided to take our main event to our South Tamworth Library branch with our Children's Services Officer leading the singing, dancing, additional stories and more in a bumper edition of our regular Story Time. Our STEAM and Childhood Literacy Coordinator from the Library Innovation Studio had an amazing time with familes planting seeds with them to take home from the South Tamworth Seed Library collection, and examining all sorts of seeds, leaves, blossoms and little hands under the Microscope before watching Josh Pyke read his book "Family Tree" live to children across Australia!"

Claremont College

Victoria Avenue Public School

"We absolutely loved taking part in NSS this year listening to a fantastic reading of 'Family Tree'. Together as a group they were completely engaged and immersed in the detailed illustrations and excellent, heart warming story. They are also creating a window display of NSS during our Library lessons this week"

John Septimus Roe Anglican Community School

Hospital School South Australia

"We have our school campuses at Women’s and Children’s Hospital, Flinders Medical Centre and Lyell McEwin Hospital.
We are a bit different from main stream schools… therefore, our NSS day is a bit different, too!
We had some students/patients joined the Storytime in their classrooms, some in their hospital beds, some linked into our WCH Primary Classroom via zoom from home or from their hospital beds… Everyone joined to Storytime depending on their health conditions."

Myrtleford  Victoria

"We had all students draw simplistic pictures of their own families, and then displayed them on our library deck wall as a “Family Tree”
Classes shared the book in their classrooms too!"

Lady Forster Kindergarten by the Bay

"This year Simultaneous Storytime fell during our weekly beach walk, so we settled by some bushes with some trees in the background to read “Family Tree”. A beautiful setting for a beautiful book."

Haasts Bluff School

We did some of the Learn from Play activities, as well as the Clever Bean activity of drawing in the Eucalyptus template and gluing on to black paper. We also collected eucalyptus leaves, seeds… and drew them.
We talked a lot about family trees and recalled work that we had done on family trees during Term 1.
We are a small, remote, Aboriginal school in Central Australia. We run one class with 2 teachers and a local language speaking (Luritja) classroom assistant. Student range in age from 4 to 12½ (Preschool/Transition to Year 7).

Grenfell Public School

"Grenfell Public School love to be involved in National Simultaneous Storytime each year with our Librarian dressing up and making it a special day for students to be part of.
This year students made family tree crowns in library lessons leading up to the special event."
