Course Overview 

Acquire and develop bibliometrics skills and knowledge to enable you to support academics, early- and mid-career researchers and PhD students with grant applications, promotions, and publication decisions. 

The focus of this course will be learning the fundamentals of bibliometrics and how they can be applied in different situations and used for different purposes. The course is designed for people with limited or no prior knowledge of bibliometrics, but will also be if interest to those wanting to know how they can better support their academic colleagues.

This is a three week professional development unit. You will receive a certificate of participation upon successfully completing this course.


Course Content

This course consists of 3 modules with a time commitment of 3-4 hours per module. 

Module 1: Introduction to Bibliometrics – overview and demonstration of the tools available
Module 2: Benchmarking with bibliometrics – demonstrate to academics their position relative to others in their field 
Module 3: Developing a publication plan – assist PhD students, early- and mid-career academics to develop a publication strategy.

Course Delivery

Contact with facilitators will be through online forums on Moodle (the online Learning Management System used by ALIA for this course).

Participants are required to have access to the InCites database (Clarivate), available through most university institutions. It is possible to complete the course without access, however, you will gain the most benefit if you are able to participate in the practical exercises.
