Dr Jane Garner

Dr Jane Garner is a lecturer and researcher with the School of Information and Communication Studies at Charles Sturt University, Australia. Her research focuses on the use of reading, libraries and information in closed, restricted and underprivileged communities, including prisons. Her current research projects include a study of the information needs of Australian prisoners and the capacity of their prison libraries to meet those needs. She is also collaborating with the State Library of New South Wales to explore the experience of first-language reading in non-English speaking background communities, and the capacity of public libraries to support these experiences. In 2022, Jane will commence a 3-year Australian Research Council funded research project focusing on public libraries in the lives of people experiencing homelessness.
