The ALIA Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Expert Advisory Group (EAG) was established in 2022 for a fixed term, to provide advice to the ALIA Board on Indigenous priorities. The EAG led substantial work culminating in the Indigenous Governance Framework which was endorsed in principle by the ALIA Board in December 2024. The EAG also provided invaluable expert advice on a number of key projects including the ALIA Skills, Knowledge and Ethics Framework for the LIS Workforce and the ALIA Code of Ethics for the LIS Workforce.

Face-to-face meeting of the EAG in Meanjin 2024: (L-R) Tui Raven, Damien Webb, Trish Hepworth (ALIA), Kirsten Thorpe, Lesley Acres, Rebecca Bates, Ryan Stoker, Karina Lamb (ALIA Board), and Yanti Ropeyarn (front).
Following recommendations from the EAG, the new permanent ALIA Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Expert Group has now been established by the ALIA Board. The slight name change reflects the substantial input the group provides into ALIA’s projects, initiatives and strategic planning. The group has a new terms of reference but a continuing membership from the EAG.
ALIA is delighted to work on an ongoing basis with this group of talented, generous LIS professionals who have provided critical professional guidance on numerous pieces of work and planning. The group is already planning for 2025, with further updates to come.
