ALIA response to closure of ABC sound libraries

Friday, 2 February 2018, Canberra:  ALIA has written to the Minister, ABC Chair and the ABC Managing Director protesting the proposed closure of ABC sound and reference libraries in Adelaide, Hobart and Perth, and reduction in services at the Sydney library.

ALIA CEO Sue McKerracher said, 'The decision to close these libraries and make 10 specialist librarians redundant will result in irreversible damage to collections, along with a great loss of knowledge, skill and expertise. We are seeking meetings with the ABC and the Minister to look at alternate options and to discuss the long term future of the ABC’s nationally significant collections.'
