The pace at which library services and resources are moving to the web is increasing. The transition of resource discovery from library controlled systems (catalogues and discovery layers) to search engines is well advanced.
Vendors and libraries are replacing standalone library management systems with cloud-based systems and library resources themselves are increasingly stored in the cloud.
Now that the implementation of RDA is underway, this seminar will consider the next steps in positioning libraries for a future on the web and how these developments may change library workflows and requirements for bibliographic data. In particular, we will focus on linked data, which is a timely topic given the work currently underway to determine a transition path for the MARC 21 exchange format to better accommodate future needs.
The keynote speaker will be Richard Wallis, Technology Evangelist, OCLC
