ALIA Schools half day seminar: Making the school library visible

The first face to face professional learning activity titled: Beyond the walls: online learning will be held at Carey Baptist Grammar School, Kew on Saturday 18 March.

This morning seminar is for primary and secondary teacher librarians and others who are responsible for school library services. Schools have many competing demands and working within teams can strengthen the role of the school library. How does the school library contribute to the various teams at your school? How does working in teams advocate for and promote the school library? Participants will have the opportunity to explore these questions through a keynote address, a panel session and a guided activity.

Tania Barry, Consultant/Contractor from La Trobe University will provide the keynote address. The role of teams including the benefits, the challenges and how to structure and position a team for effect will be explored.

Following the keynote address, the panel session will explore some strategies how they make the library visible within their school.

The panel comprises:

·         Jacqueline Griffeth, Mount Waverley Primary School, Mount Waverley

·         Faye Jamieson, Killester College, Springvale

Participants will have the opportunity to explore the newly purposed built Library Resource Centre during a guided activity.

Participants will have an opportunity to explore in further detail each of the online tools presented in the Panel session.
