ALIAWest Wikidata event 22 February 2016

ALIAWest is pleased to announce a free evening event with Andy Mabbett, Wikipedian in Residence at ORCID, who is visiting Perth during his Wikidata Tour Down Under. Andy will give an overview of Wikidata, the Wikimedia Foundation project which aims to collate data and connect data sources worldwide by aggregating unique identifiers used by the GLAM sector. In addition, Gideon Digby, President of Wikimedia Australia, will give an outline of Toodyaypedia, a Shire of Toodyay project which placed QR codes around the town and through its museums to link to articles on Wikipedia. Toodyaypedia has been recognised as one of the best Wikipedia projects worldwide.

** Andy Mabbett will also be the keynote speaker at the free half-day ‘Wikidata – Perth Mini Conference’ on Friday 19 February 9.30am – 2pm at the State Library of Western Australia. The mini conference will include speakers on:

*Noongarpedia project between UWA and Curtin which has created access to the Indigenous Australian language via Wikipedia.

*Toodyaypedia

* Newspaper project by State Library of Western Australia creating articles about every newspaper published in Western Australia.
