Meet the Author is delighted that Craig Silvey is finally able to travel from Western Australia to be in conversation with Sally Pryor on Honeybee, Silvey's third novel, which won the 2020 Dymock's Book of the Year.

Honeybee, from the author of bestselling and class list favourite, Jasper Jones, is a tender, profoundly moving novel, brimming with vivid characters and luminous words.

 Discovering a “good read”’:  Teen Reading ARC Linkage Project Launch


Wednesday 25 November 2020 at 5pm

Ursula Dubosarsky, Australian Children’s Laureate, will launch the Teen Reading ARC Linkage Project led by Deakin University on Wednesday 25 November 2020.

Researchers will present early findings on teenagers’ social media activity about books and reading and insights from publishers, editors and booksellers on reaching teen readers.

ALIA is one of the partners supporting this project.

Connecting Digital Health Literacy with Library Services and Programs

The Digital Health Literacy – Empowering your community to manage their own health future online training program, includes information that will enable public library staff to support and guide the community to navigate and understand the Federal Government digital health initiatives, such as My Health Record and how to access online health and well-being resources through the library.

A special 'white gloves' event - presented by the National Centre for Children's Literature (NCACL), and hosted at ALIA House.


Leigh Hobbs has created some of the most memorable characters in children’s books. Who doesn’t love the incorrigible Old Tom, Fiona the Pig and the much-travelled Mr Chicken? Join Ruth Nitschke as she takes you up close to the many items created by this award-winning author/illustrator that are held by NCACL. Max Brown will also discuss the various challenges of artwork conservation.

NCACL holds Australia’s largest collection of material created by the reknowned children's author and illustrator, Bob Graham. Drawing on this collection of items from Max and A Bus Called Heaven Rowan Simpkin will take you on a journey that shows how Bob created these much-loved books. Max Brown will also discuss aspects of artwork preservation.
