On Thursday the 28th of August, the ALIA URLs and AGLIN presented a seminar on Advocacy for Libraries. Speakers were drawn from a wide range of library fields, including university, TAFE, government, consortia, industry groups and librarianship education. The topics covered many different aspects of advocacy, such as tips and tricks for negotiation, promoting your library to your users and to your managers, the role of ALIA, and how it is important to stay flexible and move with the times. Presentations are available from the ALIA website here.
In the spirit of the theme of the seminar, the committee tried to keep the registration cost as low as we possibly could. We would like to thank our sponsors – the Australian Catholic University and the Australian National University Library who sponsored the morning and afternoon teas, and One Umbrella, who sponsored the travel costs of an interstate speaker. Their kind support has helped us make this seminar financially accessible.
