Continuing Professional Development

Our Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Scheme provides a framework that enables skilled personnel with a commitment to ongoing learning to demonstrate their value to employers and the broader community. Our PD Postings monthly newsletter is full of free resources and links to training courses to continue your lifelong learning. You also receive access to an easy-to-use, professional CPD Logbook to record all your activities and access our extensive industry knowledge and experience.


Professional recognition of qualifications

ALIA accredits courses for future Library and Information Sector employees allowing immediate recognition of your qualifications. However, we also offer a Widened eligibility for Australian qualifications as well as professional overseas recognition of qualifications.  Members can also access reciprocal recognition agreements with UK, Ireland, America and New Zealand.

A great collection of journals and books is an essential part of an information professional’s toolkit. The ProQuest ebook package and GALE journal package are provided FREE as part of your ALIA membership.


Fellowships and awards

The Board of Directors may confer the distinction of Fellow and the post-nominal FALIA on an ALIA Member who, in the opinion of the Board, has reached an exceptionally high standard of proficiency and has made a distinguished contribution to the theory and practice in the library and information sciences.

Each year the ALIA community recognises excellence in professional practice and research within the field of library and information management. We offer a range of awards, grants and scholarships.
