Debunking Social Media: Platforms, Policies & Practices

Three unique hour and a half workshops on 2 May, 30 May, & 6 June with presentations and activities to help librarians understand and be more confident using social media.

Event Description

Free Zoom Workshop Hosted by ALIA QLD and social media strategy company Social Cut.

The world around social media is confusing and hard to navigate. However for librarians its use is necessary to build engagement and keep in contact with surrounding communities. So to assist in demystifying this confusing medium, ALIA Queensland partnered up with social media strategy company Social Cut to create three free zoom workshops for ALIA members ($5 for non-members) so everyone can start feeling more knowledgeable when using and discussing the utilisation of social media going forward.

This is a 3-part series of workshops held over the dates 2 May, 30 May, and 6 June. Registrants can attend all three workshops as each workshop covers a different topic

Session 1 (was held on May 2, but recording will be made available to those who register now):
Strategising - creating an overall plan for social media use, where it fits into the rest of the library's marketing & PR, and evaluating different platforms against those desired outcomes.
- Organisational context and navigating barriers (council influence/ Higher-up shenanigans)

Session 2 (rescheduled from May 16 to May 30):
Describing and explaining the benefits & potential issues of specific platforms. Tips & Tricks, How to use them, best practices.

Session 3 (rescheduled from May 30 to June 6):
Applying session 1 & 2 - Hands on discussion amongst participants; Using examples of how they have used social media for their libraries, how it worked, how it didn't, what can be altered moving forward.
