Brisbane City Council currently has multiple flexible permanent part-time and permanent full-time opportunities for skilled and enthusiastic Library Technician’s to join various Brisbane City Council library branches.
Library Technicians play an essential role in delivering high standards of library services in a modern and continuously changing environment. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively problem-solve, particularly with technology and computer services, is vital in the role of Library Technician, as is the ability to deliver a range of activities including reading, storytelling, learning and outreach.
The role of Library Technician requires you to have the ability to mentor others to develop their information technology skills and more crucially, provide support to your Team Leader to achieve key Library Services objectives.
To be considered for the role you will have:
- experience and commitment to delivering a strong customer focus, ideally in a public library setting
- success in delivering activities and services such as promotion, outreach and children’s services
- proven knowledge of the full range of library collections and the ability to apply collection management principles
- well-developed interpersonal and communication skills
- proven ability in maintaining, troubleshooting and operating library technical equipment
- ability to provide accurate and current reference and community information
- demonstrated success working effectively in a high performing team environment.

4 x Permanent full-time positions:
Brisbane Square Library - Saturday shift every second week; no Monday shift every second week
Chermside Library - Saturday shift every second week; no Monday shift every second week
Ashgrove Library (two positions available) - Saturday shift every second week; no Monday shift every second week
You must be available to work standard business hours of 36.25 hours per week which could be rostered from Monday to Saturday in line with the library opening and closing times, which may include some late evenings.
Additionally, you will be required to work some Sunday shifts which may be at an alternative branch location and in addition to your base hours.
2 x Flexible permanent part-time positions:
New Farm Library – 30 hours per week
Zillmere Library – 25 hours per week
You must be available to work your base hours (e.g. 30 or 25 hours per week) to a flexible roster which could be scheduled from Monday to Saturday in line with the library opening and closing times, which may include some late evenings.
Additionally, you will be required to work some Sunday shifts which may be at an alternative branch location and in addition to your base hours.
The successful applicant will be required to support their Team Leader and in the Team Leader’s absence, will often be one of the most senior employees on site. For this reason, you will need strong decision-making and leadership capabilities.
A Diploma in Library and Information Management or related discipline and/or equivalent experience in a public library will be highly regarded as would fluency in a second language.
