The Australian Classification Board has been in the news quite a bit lately – often in relation to actions and decisions that affect libraries and our clients.
How confident are you that you are on top of what the Board does, and how that has an impact on what you have in your collections and how you provide access to those materials?
In this webinar we examine the basics – what gets classified and what does not and what the process is - as well as what it means to have unclassified or classified materials in your collection. We examine recent changes which improve our situation (such as access to LOTE videos) as well as the area of censorship and materials “likely to cause offence,” including disproportionately targeted collections such as graphic novels.
Presenters
Trish Hepworth is the Director of Policy and Education for the Australian Library and Information Association; in which role she is overseeing the Association’s Professional Pathways Initiative. Trish has a depth of experience spanning corporate, government and not-for-profit sectors across five countries.
Helen Kwaka is Manager, Collections & Content at Public Library Services South Australia. Helen is passionate about public libraries and has worked delivering services to the community for over 25+ years. She was Manager of Library Services at Tea Tree Gully for 15 years, the largest single site within the state. In 2021 she successfully joined the State Library of South Australia. As Manager, Collections & Content her team is responsible for the establishment, management and delivery of collection and content services for the South Australian Public Library Network.
Iurgi Urrutia is an Information Services Librarian for Kingston Libraries, Victoria, and the convenor of the ALIA Special interest group ALIA Graphic. His favourite part of his job is collection management and the acquisition of graphic novels. He has a background in education and media studies and loves to get involved in supporting the children and youth services team.
