INCITE in conversation - February 2023

Join us for a discussion with teacher librarian, Natasha Lee from Cooranbong Public School in NSW for a chat about all the ways school libraries can support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set out by the United Nations. The SDGs are a call to take action to address the environmental, social, political and economic challenges that we are facing globally.

Natasha believes that school libraries can be strong supporters of all seventeen goals, and has prepared a fascinating document full of information and links to resources detailing just how well placed school libraries are to progress, support and enact the goals. You can read and download the document here: https://read.alia.org.au/school-libraries-support-sustainable-development-goals

Natasha began preparing the document while completing her student placement at ALIA to finalise her Master of Education (Teacher Librarianship) qualification. Her work was supported by teacher librarians, Madison Dearnaley, Helen Weston, Kayte Eyre, and Jacqui Lucas. STEM specialist Nel Manansala also provided links to resources and initiatives.

Her work seeks to engage, inspire and equip LIS professionals across the board with the resources and knowledge to initiate change and to cultivate communities that are sustainable and inclusive.

This session of INCITE in conversation picks up an article from the November/December 2022 issue of INCITE magazine, which you can read here: https://read.alia.org.au/incite-article-school-libraries-support-un-sdgs
