Aurora Scholarships The Australian Library and Information Association
has announced that funds of up to $4,000 are available each year to support attendance by an ALIA member at the Aurora
Leadership Institute. The purpose of the scholarship is to enable an ALIA member to attend the Institute where this would
otherwise be difficult due to the financial commitment required. The scholarship is open to personal financial members
of ALIA who meet certain criteria. Further information: Aurora Scholarship
The Aurora Foundation may award a Warren Horton Scholarship to a deserving applicant who is not otherwise funded
by his or her employer.
AGLIN, the Australian Government Libraries Information Network, provides a scholarship supporting attendance by
an AGLIN Library staff member.
New Zealand applicants who are LIANZA members should contact LIANZA for details of any LIANZA sponsorship arrangements.

Leadership Institute in February 2007.
The Aurora Board has met to consider a strong field of applicants for the 2007 Institute. The process of selection has been complicated by the fact that several applicants were not funded by their employing organisations and could only attend if they were awarded either the ALIA or the Warren Horton Scholarships. The Board has now made its decisions and will communicate them to all applicants by 20 November 2006.

Vale Warren Horton. After a long illness, Warren Horton, the Aurora Foundation's Chairman and Inspiration, died peacefully on 25 November 2003. The Aurora community, the wider library community, and his many, many friends, mourn his passing. Warren was instrumental in establishing the Aurora Foundation Ltd and worked hard to establish the current annual cycle of Leadership Institutes. The seventh Institute in February 2004 was the first without him. He'll be missed. |

New Venue for Aurora 6. The 6th Aurora
Leadership Institute, 7-12 February 2003 took
place at the Lakeside Hotel in central Canberra City, rather than at Thredbo. Commenting on the late change in venue, the
Chairman of the Aurora Foundation, Warren Horton, said: "Thredbo
village and the National Park surrounding it are closed due to
bushfires. Considering the
safety of participants, and the uncertainty related to when the venue
might re-open, we decided to invoke Plan B. The Lakeside is a hotel of great character, and we have been
fortunate to secure the top floor with its stunning views as our main
learning space. Parklands
around the hotel will also serve us well for outdoor activities."
