The Wiggles and the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) want your kids to love books and reading from an early age - it's one of the best things we can all do to help them develop good literacy skills. The Wiggles have thrown their support behind the cause of literacy and fun times to encourage young children to get into the reading habit. In an amazing show of support, the superstar group have made two community service announcements for ALIA, which are presented on this website along with links to early childhood literacy resources for parents, carers and educators. Australia's libraries and literacy programs have been running on less and less year by year. There's been no funding to attempt a community service announcement but it's something that the library and information industry and ALIA members have long dreamed of. A sobering study in 2006 estimated that 46% of Australians struggle with the basics of everyday literacy. This initiative is aimed at improving awareness of the many services and resources available through libraries and online to help parents, carers and educators help children develop their literacy skills. ALIA is grateful for the wonderful show of support from The Wiggles for this early childhood literacy initiative. About the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) The Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) is the professional association for the Australian library and information services sector.
