Premiere night activities

There are some great and imaginative launch parties being planned - including a PJ party! What are you planning?

I personally don’t have anything huge planned but will definitely be watching on the night!

Apparently the National Library is holding a screening night which sounds like fun. They’re showing it on a big screen and providing nibbles/drinks.

  2. Julanne Says:

QUT Information Professionals Alumni are holding a fun evening that includes a quiz, nibbles and fancy dress on the night of the first episode (as well as watching the show of course). Anyone in Brisbane is welcome to join us - click on the website link for more info.

  3. Lorrie Stearns Says:

At Wyndham Library Service we are having a “first night viewing” for staff past and present.
The evening begins with BYO drinks and nibbles at 8.30 pm in readiness for the 9.30 pm start.
There will be prizes for the best-dressed librarian (think cardigans and pearls), and a few “mystery” games.

  4. Derek Says:

I’m afraid that there is a lot more information abroad about The Librarians. I have put a few links at http://www.dereksaliablog.blogspot.com. And I will be rocking up at RMIT city campus library at 9.30 to watch the librarians - and the show, too, of course.

  5. Tania Says:

aliaVIC and RMIT are having a TV party jim jam screening, complete with popcorn and soft drink, starting at 8.30 pm in preparation for the 9.30 pm screening! PJs are optional, so who will be daring enough to wear them???

  6. Fiona Says:

I’m going to see it at the ABC! 40 Sydney librarians will be attending.

  7. The Shopping Sherpa Says:

I’ll be at The National Library Screening but I believe there’s also a screening at the ABC in Sydney…

  8. Margie - Vic LLO Says:

Yes, please come and join us in Melbourne for a group viewing. We’ll be in the Library at RMIT Uni in Swanston St. Ask for directions at the Ref Desk. RMIT is supplying the softdrink and popcorn but feel free to bring something more festive if you wish. PJ’s optional! We start at 8.30 for the 9.30 screening.

I think it will be interesting to try to guess which library service the writers have modeled the show on. I have my own ideas…

  9. Rachel Ritchie Says:

At Gosford City Library I am hosting a party at Erina Library. Kicking off at 7.30pm with pizza & nibbles provided, BYO drinks. All local librarians invited!

  10. Benita Says:

ALIA SA and ABC in Adelaide are hosting a library tour and screening of the show at the ABC Centre, complete with wine and fingerfood.
The event booked out in 24 hours!

I would encourage other Adelaideans to host parties/gatherings for the occaision…

  11. Robin Lee Says:

Bartini’s Bar & Lounge in Flinders Street East is the place to be if you are a librarian or library lover in Townsville on Oct 31st. Let me know if you want to join a table for dinner @ 7.30pm otherwise just turn up from 8.30pm for drinks and tapas menu at the bar and the show on the big screen @ 9.30pm

  12. Kathryn Greenhill Says:

On Thursday night, you can chat about the show with other librarians on ABC Island in Second Life.

In conjunction with the ABC, Emerald Dumont - a librarian avatar from the Australian Libraries Building - will host a discussion of the show in the ABC Auditorium on ABC Island. Do we really look like that? What would you have added? What do you think will happen? Would other professions be having this discussion if the show was called “The Teachers” or “The Doctors”?

    DATE: Thursday November 1st

TIME: 7:30pm AEDST, 5:30pm (WA Daylight savings) , 1:30am SL time (PDT)

PLACE: ABC Auditorium , ABC Island in SL

(If you are logged into Second Life, click on this SLURL to get there: http://slurl.com/secondlife/ABC%20Island/128/75/24)

Instant message Emerald Dumont if you need a Teleport to the event, or contact her close friend Kathryn Greenhill for further information ( kathryn.greenhill at gmail dot com)

  13. Walt Lessun Says:

Over here, we’ll be watching the webcast. We’ll have coffee and snacks. “Nibbling” means something different in this part of the United States and I most certainly do not allow that sort of thing to go on in our library.

  14. Peta Says:

Kathryn Greenhill aka Emerald Dumont is hosting a post-broadcast discussion in Second Life the following evening - Thursday.

  15. Margie's Lib Tech class at VUT Says:

We are using this blog in our class at VUT today on multimedia and social networking. A room full of potential Library Technicians are waiting with bated breath to see the first episode. Who knew this blog would be part of the curriculum?

  16. Trevor Wakely Says:

And I thought it a very funny and ineresting show…

The only concern was the possilbe copy cat incidents of ‘pooh’ being put down Library return chutes… (though Public Library colleagues may advise this already happens?????)

  17. Robin Lee Says:

Trevor, you are on the mark (or pretty close anyway!). I have had pizza in the book chute but the worse one was a bucket load of cane toads. They had spent the night clambering out of the bin and hiding all over the ground floor. Horrible.
