Media Relase Templates
Promote the Summer Reading Club to local media in your area. Feel free to use the below templates and distribute them to your local newspaper, radio station etc.
Activities you could do locally
- Visit local schools and show the Youtube clip "Why gorillas aren't allowed in the library"
- Ask the local vet to pose reading a storybook to a pet and to display a poster in their surgery
- Ask the local RSPCA to stage a photo shoot/story time for the local media
- Ask local extreme sports people to come to the library and read to the children
- Your local animal sanctuary or zoo may be willing to cross promote the program
- Promote reading survival kits (eg. extreme bookmarks)
- Ask local teens to pose dressed as "Twilight" or other vampire heroes (eg. Buffy) for the media
Where the wild things are
- The release date for the new Where the Wild Things Are movie adaptation of Maurice Sendak's book in Australia, New Zealand is December 3, 2009 (to be confirmed)
- "Let the wild rumpus begin" to launch your summer reading club
- Work with your local cinema to do a little cross promotion
- the movie trailer is available on Apple Store or YouTube
- Director Spike Jonze has a blog We love you so - Where the Wild things are
- Terrible Yellow Eyes is a website celebrating Maurice Sendak's art
- American Library Association have a new Wild Things themed poster
- The Rosenbach Museum in Philadelphia has posted 3 videos of Maurice Sendak talking about his work
Summer reading club on wheels - ideas for mobile libraries
- tie a stuffed animal toy to the bumper (like the truckies toy convoy)
- get an animal stamp to stamp the hands of kids who come on board
