Haunted House/ Halloween Theme

 * Ghostbusters scavenger hunt - the kids have to find different ghosts or monster-type creatures throughout the library
 * Zombie/ Horror Makeup Workshop 
 * Set up a cauldron (more of a mixing pot) in the middle of the library. Provide all these digusting things like slime, dirty shoes, socks, string, toy rats, etc. and create a witch stew. 
 * Paint faces green...stick "moles" on their faces
 * Make a friendly ghost flag
 * Spooky packing tape tranfers 
 * Create 'potions'. Click here for some inspiration.
 * Create a glow in the dark mural from here. Works well when lights are turned off.
 * Make your own jack-o-laterns.This is one possible way.
 * Boo Am I? This is a 'scary' version of charades. So children try and guess different horror characters like vampires, ghosts, witches, etc.

Monster Theme

 * Perhaps you could have a monster cupcake decorating competition? 
 * Marshall Alexander - Paper engineer has some amazing templates
 * Monster Dinner Game: Blindfold people and get them to touch and smell different foods. Get the children to guess what they touch/smell. Could use boiled spaghetti, cheese, jelly, lettuce leaves, olives, etc. 
 * Monster snot (green jelly) sucking competition - Plastic cups half filled with monster-snot-green jelly 
 (make it a bit weaker than normal so they can get the jelly up the straw).  First kid to finish sucking all 
 their jelly through the straw is the winner. Funniest sound you'll ever hear in a library guaranteed!

Reptile Theme

 * Crocodile party [dress up as a crocodile / crocodile hunter, make crocodile masks, play crocodile trivia / quiz, watch an episode of Crocodile Hunter or similar] more ideas here

 * Make a Spiraling Snake
 * Hire an animal related worker to bring in some snakes, lizards, spiders etc. for the children to hold. 
 * Make the room dark, get the children to lie down, play reptile sounds as if they are on an animal safari. 

Dinosaur Theme

 * Hide plastic fossils and bones throughout the junior section of the library (in between the books) and give out clues to the children (about the location) for them to find them.
 * Dinosaur Egg Hunt: Wrap chocolate easter eggs of different sizes with wrapping paper and hide them around the books in the library for the children to find. 

Campfire Theme

 * Tell scary stories around a 'campfire'
 * Create own scary stories. Help the children by suggesting a setting, character. 
 * Create hand shadows of animals on the wall

Ancient Egyptian Theme

 * Treasure Hunt - solving heiroglyphics 
 * Mummy Dress Up Game: Divide the children into groups and have them wrap one person with toilet paper. Award prizes to those who can decorate the most creative.

Alien Theme

 * Alien Dress Up Game: provide the children with aluminium, toilet paper rolls and other accessories to dress up themselves as aliens. Award prizes to the creative ideas. 

Robot Theme

 * Similarly to the alien dress up game have a Robot Dress Up Game. Provide different material for the children to dress up as robots and award prizes for creativity.
 * Create your own Robot: Spray paint cardboard boxes and different material (pots, pans, plastic PVC pipes, duct tape, phone wire, buttons, etc.). As a whole group build a robot together.
