Reading in the wild
Think about having a reading group meeting in a park, in a national park, at a lake, river or at sea.
Do you have a book about your area set in any of these locations?
You could have public readings of a book, poem or other work at the site it is written about. For example there could be reading up the coast of Western Australia of Dirt music by Tim Winton. This could be a really fun sequential reading organised by the libraries up the coast line, each having a public reading (perhaps recorded on youtube) of the novel so that people could follow the story as it moves. It could also be a time to have a talk from a local environment group such as Landcare or some other group which is active in your area.
Or you could have an urban wild reading interacting with the different local tribes, perhaps including reading from locally produced zines or graphic novels. It could be a way of helping people understand and appreciate their local diversity.
You could also have a discussion or talk about a country or region which seems politically wild.
Reading in the wild has many possibilities for programming for adults.
Bookmarks and other ideas
These great bookmark ideas from the Michigan Center of the Book might give you inspiration to make something local eg. "Sydney in books / movies / photos" ... perhaps you could put a wild spin on it (urban jungle ... or?)
