Inquiry into school libraries and teacher librarians in Australian schools


ALIA's submission to the Inquiry

ALIA's submission and letter of support, including links to the Inquiry and to the transcript of ALIA's presentation to the public hearing on 29 April 2010, are available on the ALIA website.

ALIA presented at the public hearing in Melbourne on 29 April 2010. The ALIA transcript is now available (pp 2-15).

ALIA was invited back to present for a second time at the public hearing in Adelaide on 12 July. The transcript is available here, pp 2-8.

ALIA, ASLA and the Australian Education Union have produced a joint statement regarding serious funding issues around Teacher Librarians and School Libraries.

Template letter for your local MP

Although the date has passed for submissions to the Inquiry, it is important during the Committee's deliberations and public hearings that all concerned members, friends and supporters write to their local MP with their concerns.

We encourage you to write to your local federal member using this template letter.

ALIA/ASLA Policy Advisory Group

ALIA and the Australian School Library Association (ASLA) work collaboratively on issues concerning school libraries and teacher librarians.

The ALIA/ASLA Policy Advisory Group (PAG) advises the ALIA Board of Directors and the ASLA National Council on policy and advocacy issues.

The Terms of Reference were revised in September 2009.


ALIA Schools group

The ALIA Schools group promotes the interests of school libraries and teacher-librarians, provides opportunities for professional development, lobbies for school libraries with state and local groups, liaises with other groups, identifies and analyses current trends in teacher librarianship, and maintains the profile of teacher-librarianship within ALIA.
