Adelaide 98 - the ALIA biennial conference
Feedback from the 5th Biennial Conference indicates that this provided a rewarding professional experience for participants and a positive financial return to the Association.
The conference theme was Pathways to knowledge and the innovative program (which included more than 100 sessions) led delegates through a number of those paths. The workshop sessions proved to be very popular with many of these sessions full to
overflowing. Evaluations suggest that the attempt to provide variety in both content and presentation was appreciated by delegates.
The conference committee organised a very successful 'Fringe' conference which targetted students and new members of the profession. More than one hundred and fifty delegates attended the Fringe, and more than seventy-five per cent of these went onto the
main conference. There was strong support from delegates that the Fringe become an integrated part of future Biennial Conferences.
The conference committee would like to extend its thanks to all ALIA members who volunteered their time to help organise the biennial conference. The committee would also like to thank Hartley Management Group who undertook the conference day-to-day
management and co-ordination.
