Principal activity
The principal continuing activity of the Association during the past year was representing the interests of members engaged in the library and information science profession.

Review of operations
The operations of the Association continue to be based on representing the interests of members engaged in the library and information science profession. The results of these operations are considered to be satisfactory.
Matters subsequent to the end of the financial year
At the date of this report there is no matter or circumstance which has arisen since 31 December 1997 that has significantly affected or may significantly affect the operations in financial year subsequent to 31 December 1996 of the Association, the
results of those operations or the state of affairs of the Association.
General councillors' benefits
Since 31 December 1996, no councillor of the Association has received, or become entitled to receive, a benefit because of a contract that the councillor, a firm with which the councillor is a member, or an entity in which the councillor has a substantial
financial interest, has made during the year ended 31 December 1996, or at any other time with the Association.

General Council met on three occasions during the year ended 31 December 1997. The following table sets out the number of General Council meetings attended by each councillor.

Indemnification and insurance of officers
During the year the Association paid insurance premiums totalling $4325 in respect of directors' and officers' liability insurance. The directors' and officers' liability insurance provides cover against all costs and expenses involved in defending legal
actions and any resulting payments arising from liability to persons (other than the Association or a related body corporate) incurred in his/her position as general councillor or executive officer unless the conduct involved willful breach of duty or
improper use of inside information or position to gain advantage. The policy does not specify the premium for individual and general councillors and executive officers.
