Australian government publications: the challenge of discovery in the digital age

ABSTRACT Australian government publishing has had a rich and diverse history. There have been periods of decentralisation, commercialisation and now digitisation. Accessing Commonwealth government publications has become more complex than in the print environment, both for libraries and the public. With the development of government electronic publishing has come a new range of search or resource discovery options, none as yet providing comprehensive access. This paper reviews publishing and information models for government web services. Issues of access discovery and description are compared for print and the networked electronic communication environments.
