ALIA Connects

Keeping you connected during the COVID-19 pandemic

We'll update this page regularly with links to resources and activities to help you remain connected during the next few months.

ALIA Chats - Friday 'after work drinks', virtually...

Grab whatever beverage you'd like at 5pm and join some ALIA staff and other ALIA Members from across Australia for a casual chat. Share what you've been up to at work, or at home. Ask for advice, or check in with your peers about how everyone is approaching library and information provision during the COVID-19 pandemic.

And how are you going personally? Anything you've found that has helped you or your family during this time? What's making it easier for you? Maybe you're feeling philosophical about the changes this time will bring to information services in the long term - what's your prediction?

Time: every Friday 5pm AEDT for at least 40 minutes - sometimes we add several extra sessions to account for people's availability, and a 7pm AEDT session for our WA friends.

LINK: A Zoom link will be emailed each Thursday to ALIA Members.

#AusLibChat

#AusLibChat is an ongoing Australian and New Zealand centred professional discussion on Twitter for library and information services students and professionals. It is proudly presented by the ALIA New Generation Advisory Committee (NGAC), and during the next few months will be a particularly useful way of connecting and sharing with other library and information professionals.

#AusLibChat is currently held 9pm AEDT first Tuesday of the month.

ALIA VIC

  • ALIA Vic is running a Collaborative Story which will be presented at its virtual Halloween storytime on 31 October.

#LibComixOnline

ALIA Graphic Novels and Comics Group is joining the American Library Association's GNCRT in an online initiative that will spotlight online comic reading and recommendations, resources and toolkits, and other #libcomix content virtually through #LibComixOnline.

They will share the content from GNCRT,  but will also create some content of their own and, even better, some content in collaboration with them!

These are some of the events that ALIA Graphic plan to roll out in the coming weeks:
  • Compiling and sharing comics-related resources for everyone who's staying at home (printables, learning activities, etc)
  • Recorded interviews and creator meet ups with some of their favourite Australian creators
  • Webinars for librarians on different aspects of comics librarianship
  • Live drawing parties online

SNGG Book Club

The brand new ALIA SNGG Book Club is for studying, new, and existing Biblarians (ie. librarians who love to read!)

The club will be reading a new book and hosting a guided discussion every 2 months, and the SNGG would love you to get involved by joining their group, suggesting book titles and voting to decide which books will be read.

The current book is My Brilliant Career by Miles Franklin

Find out more on the SNGG Book Club Facebook Group page HERE.
