Membership of ALIA

You can join ALIA online in one of three categories: Associate, Library Technician or Member.

Fees :

Full fee applies to persons whose gross personal income for the financial year is more than $30 000.

Reduced fee applies to persons whose gross personal income for the financial year is $30 000 or less, and Health Care Card holders. It also applies to graduates for their first two years in the profession after graduation.

Student/retiree fee applies to students not in paid employment, and persons who are over 55 and have retired from employment.

Administration fee: A one-off administration fee of $36.00 applies to all new or re-admitting Associate and Library Technician applicants. The fee covers the election process and the issuing of a certificate.

Associate

Members in this category hold an ALIA-recognised library and information science qualification at under-graduate or post-graduate levels. They are entitled to receive a certificate of associate membership, and may use the post-nominal letters AALIA while a financial member of ALIA. They are also entitled to membership of the professional development scheme.

Library technician

Full fee Reduced fee Student fee Retiree fee

Members in this category hold an ALIA-recognised library technician qualification. A library technician member receives a certificate of technician membership, and is entitled to use the post-nominal letters ALIATec while a financial member of the Association. They are also entitled to membership of the professional development scheme.

Member

Full fee Reduced fee Student fee Retiree fee

Member full fee All interested individuals, including those studying towards a library and information science qualification and those awaiting assessment for recognition of an overseas qualification, may join ALIA as a member. No qualifications are required.
