Knowledge management - the new world of the information professional

Information Online Conference 2005

Knowledge management is the way of the future, and Information Online 2005 is a major conference that explores many of the issues. The conference will be held at Darling Harbour, Sydney from 1-3 February 2005.

More than sixty speakers from across Australia, Europe, the United States and Asia will inform, inspire and challenge through a program encompassing themes such as content management, information architecture and the use of metadata.

Peter Crowe, Head of Search, at Yahoo! will give the first keynote address, discussing the future of the search engine.

Hemant Manohar, Chief Knowledge Officer, KPMG in India, will discuss how skilled manpower at very competitive wage levels is seeing India rapidly emerge as the world's outsourcing hub of knowledge work.

Angela Abell, director of TFPL Ltd, will explore the conclusions of two recent knowledge management focused projects in the United Kingdom. The message from these studies is that the information profession will increasingly operate in complex but exciting arenas. The new way of working will build knowledge capability into the fabric of the organisation - where everyone is involved and a demanding mix of skills will be required.

A huge trade exhibition will feature a dedicated seminar room with keynote presentations each day and product review sessions.

During the conference, the Chasing the Sun virtual reference service will be simultaneously launched in Sydney and the United Kingdom. A collaborative project of the South Australian Health Libraries Consortium and the UK National Health Service libraries in the South West of England, Chasing The Sun is an after-business hours online reference service for urgent clinical questions relating to patient care.
