Renowned word-smith to launch new dictionary

The new edition of the Australian dictionary of acronyms and abbreviations will be launched tonight during a reception at the National Library of Australia.

Barry Jones AO will officially launch the fifth edition of the dictionary. The 662-page volume was compiled by one of Australia's best-known writers on libraries and reference books, Dr David J Jones. David's other publications include histories of the State Library of New South Wales and of Pastaka Negeri Sarawak in Malaysia, and The Australian librarian's manual.

The Dictionary is available for $66 (plus $15 handling fee) exclusively from the Australian Library and Information Association, ph 02 6215 8222, fx 02 6282 2249, enquiry@alia.org.au.nospam.

The National Library of Australia reception is part of the ALIA2000 'Capitalising on knowledge: the information profession in the 21st century' conference being held in Canberra this week.
