4 May 1997 Qld Library Week to be launched in NoosaSunshine Coast locals and tourists will be able to go Net (Internet) surfing with an Ironman and Olympic Gold Medal winner at the Queensland launch of Australian Library Week on Tuesday 6 May 1997. Keynote launch speaker, at Sunshine Plaza, on the River Walk, from 10:30am will be Clint Robinson, Ironman competitor and canoeing champion. He will speak on the theme of Libraries: a Web of Information for Living and Leisure. Clint will be helped by 'Spiderman' to launch both ALW and the Sunshine Coast Australian Library Week (ALW) Web site. The image of man climbing a 'net' of information is one of the posters issues by the Australian Library and Information Association to promote this year's ALW, which runs from Sunday 4 May to Saturday 10 May. People are invited to visit their local libraries during the week to see the wealth of new information which librarians can help people access. The image will be re-created in real life at the Queensland launch. Between 10:00am and 3:00pm, people visiting the site can enjoy refreshments, receive balloons for children featuring the ALW theme for this year ...and try their hand at surfing the Internet for free.
