ALIA URLs (ACT) [urlsact]ALIA URLs (ACT), (Universities and Research Libraries’ Group), provides a networking and information-sharing forum for all levels of library staff interested in issues and trends affecting the development of university and research libraries. The group organises professional development and training opportunities and provides a network of communication and support. ALIA URLs aims to enhance inter-institutional information exchange within the region, and liaises with other relevant organisations. Planned activities include seminars, monthly meetings with guest speakers, and workshops on topics relevant to the sector. Please come to our combined end of year social event for URLs and AGLIN!

Aileen Weir E-Books Seminar – 17 June 2008The ALIA URLs (ACT) Group held an informative half-day seminar to share experiences and learn from others about acquiring and managing e-books in library collections. Bob Pymm provided an overview to the seminar, followed by a talk by Linda Wright from a publisher's perspective (James Bennett). Speakers from the Australian Catholic University (Kate Bunker for Heather Pearsall), UNSW@ADFA (Christine Fulton) and the ACT Library and Information Service (Sarah Steed) also shared information that they have gained from their experience with e-books, particularly in relation to technical and access issues, budgeting challenges and marketing implications. E-books: from a collection development perspective Career Development Workshop – 11 May 2009The workshop provided participants with a broad overview of the state of the library and information management sector, as well as sharing some insights into the career development experiences of previous and current library and information workers. Another focal point for the day's activities was on personal review/analysis at the individual level in regards to progressing one's career development.
