July meeting agenda

26 July 2006, CDU Casuarina.

  1. Present: Linda Marchesani, Julie Adams, Sue Chilman, Sarah White, Pat Whalan, Jill Heffernan, Dianne Glasson, Carmel, Robin Hemple, Di Sinclair, So Young, Marilyn Hawthorne

  3. Business:
    1. Management

      1. Committee meetings:Although ALIA events have taken place instead of the monthly meetings, the executive have been meeting each month to continue to progress business.
        Action:All: Executive happy to be contacted outside of meeting times, if there are issues you wish to discuss.
      2. New graduates & silver pin: Exec continuing to gather names of new grad and people eligible for silver pins for recognition at the end of year function.
        Action: All: Please pass on names of eligible people to the exec.
      3. Local liaison officer:Position still vacant. Very important paid position, we need to try to find someone to fill it.
        Action:All: Please pass on names of people who you think may be interested to the exec.
      4. Red centre ALIA group: Have been successful in their bid to host the 2008 ALIA Conference. Will be officially announced at this year's conference. Congratulations to the Red Centre.
      5. ALIA board update: Ann Ritchie send apologies. Information went out on the elist.
      6. NILLS agreement: Only four outstanding signatories. Details on the ALIA Top End group's website. Thanks to Sue for progressing this.
    2. Professional development

      1. Symposium update:11 abstract received. Committee willing to accept more if submitted within the next week. Dinner at Moorish Café. Target of 50 registrations. Have 6 Gold ($500.00) sponsors, and 2 Silver ($250.00) sponsors. Keynote speaker will be from interstate. Details on website, including registration forms. Fantastic work from the committee.
      2. PowerSearching: Good numbers (41 registrations) for Darwin. Was cancelled due to poor registrations in other states.
      3. Monthly meeting calendar: Was recently sent out on the elist. Everyone (members and non-members) welcome. Some great non-traditional library tours coming up eg ABC.
    3. Events and activities

      1. LIW 2006: Good attendance at the Palmerston Library tour and Panel Discussion. ALIA also involved in banner and NT News promotion.2007: Planning underway now to avoid missing opportunities as we leave it to the last minute. Committee formed: Sue Chilman, Julie Adams, Liam Casey.
        Action:All: Send ideas to the committee
      2. Presidents visit: Well attended open presentations and drinks. She also visited 8 libraries and ran a closed session for VITELs and invited guests. People reported positive comments about her visit.
        Action:All: Provide feedback to exec as to how you found the visit, and any suggestions for next time.
      3. Artwork for Lyn McIntosh: Tentative date set for 25 October 2006 to tie in with the October meeting. ALIA will be asking for small donations from interested people to cover the cost of the artwork.
      4. National advisory congress: 16 of August. Members only session. All members encouraged to attend to discuss big picture issues in our profession and association. Pizza supplied courtesy of ALIA National Office. Will be facilitated our Darwin based board member, Ann Ritchie
        Action: All Members: Please attend to make sure you have you say in the running of your association.
      5. Education forum: 18th of August. Gillian Hallam will be the interstate facilitator. Watch the elist for more details.
      6. Careers expo: 23 August. Will be an exciting stall. DCC, Palmerston public, CDU and NTL have offered support.
        Action:All: Contact Sarah White to put your name on the roster, to help out, or provide ideas.
      7. Ann Alderslade farewell: Dinner after the ABC library tour on the 27 of September. Watch the elist for details.
    4. Communication

      1. Interface: Deadline for articles for the August edition has passed, but Jayshree will accept late submissions over the next week.
        Action:All: Contact Jayshree to contribute to Interface.

Next meeting: 23 August 2006, Parap Primary School Library. Brand new library so will be great to have a look. see you there.
