Business arising
3.1 Group Guidelines- Robin. Held over until next meeting
Working group reports
3.1 Symposium
Keynote speaker confirmed as Georgina Dale who will speak on CPD. Committee will meet to review abstracts. Informal dinner at the wharf will be included in publicity/promotion.
3.3 Executive officer/presidents visit - Robin
Georgina will be visiting in October for symposium. Imogen unavailable to visit in October 2004. Robin will write to both to see if either can visit this year, perhaps for a Christmas function.
3.4 ALIA 2006 conference
Ann Ritchie reported to board that NT could not host 2006 committee, but that a combined effort by a few states to host in Alice Springs would be considered for 2008. Ann suggested that a proposal be put forward at the next NPC regarding the joint application to host 2008 conference- the group supported this. Robin to speak with Graeme from Centralian group before the NPC.
Budget
Di provided verbal update on proposed group budget submitted for 2004-2005.
Other business
5.1 CPD Presentation- Jayshree
Jayshree will give presentation at CDU Palmerston on 18 August 2004. Optional dinner to follow. Jayshree checking if Karawa is available, if not, Robin will check with other local restaurants.
5.2 Futures expo
Aimed at students in years 9-12. To be held 17 and 18 August at showgrounds. Also held in Alice Springs, Tennant Creek, Katherine, Nhulunbuy, Jabiru. The @your library 'future careers' theme will be promoted. Ana has commenced planning by contacting key people, obtaining membership kits. Roster needs to be drawn up to make sure the stall can be manned. Robin will book the stall. Suggestions for people at stalls include Sarah Manning, A'hmara McKey, Danielle Chisolm, Kira. Talk to Kay about key students such as Leonie. Robin and Melanie to approach these people and send general e-mail to gain involvement.
5.3 Secretary/group support officer position
Application received from John Wharam for group support officer position. Robin has forwarded this to Georgina and outcome should be known soon.
5.4 National Policy Congress meeting times
Darwin: 24 August 5:00pm-7:00pm, NTL ground floor conference room. Refreshments will be provided. Alice Springs: 2 September 9:00am-10:30am CDU Library, Conference room. Refreshments will be provided. Ana will facilitate meeting. Information to be distributed via e-mail.
5.5 Free trade agreement
Felicity enquired as to whether the group had submitted ALIA's submission to local senators. Felicity will speak with ALIA National Office (Collette) to draft a letter by mid August when submissions are due. Group gave full support for Felicity to follow through with this. Copy of letter to be produced at next meeting.
5.6 ASLA issues
Ruth and Robin are going to respond regarding a proposal for the Palmerston Super/Senior school regarding shared use of library facilities. Re: Secondary school review- Robin provided input to ASLA's response. Robin will send a submission on behalf of ALIA Top End.
5.7 CHARTRES
Launching reviewed training package soon.
5.8 CBC Winners
CBC winners will be announced on 20 August, 5:00pm-6:00pm at NTL. 28 August, 10:00am -1:00pm: Function for children to engage in CBC shortlist book activities
