Committee meeting Wednesday 14 November 2001

Meeting opened: 5:00pm.

Present:

Minutes:

From previous meeting confirmed. Amend apologies from October meeting to include Julie Fawcett.

Alan's visit:

Wednesday 21 November 6:00pm dinner at Sailing Club. Linda and Lyn to organise travel from NTL to Sailing Club.

Committee agreed to pay for two platters of nibbles for dinner on 22 November 2001 at Crustaceans for 6:30pm. Judith organising.

Barbara to e-mail list-serve notifying that payment for dinner on the night will need to be cash (not credit card). Exact money of $28.50 is appreciated.

Budgets:

Draft budget for 2002 is due on 15 November. Will use the group application to draft budget.

NILLS:

Pending with Ruth.

NTU awards:

Pending with Linda. Contact has been made with NTU.

Support officer's duties:

Ruth and Bruce to arrange a meeting (Pat is currently on leave).

E-list:

E-list for institution membership is restricted to one e-mail address only, however we should promote that this e-mail can be circulated to others within the organisation from there.

LATTE members will need to enrol as members of TOPEND to be included on the TOPEND e-list. LATTE members can update their membership via the Natioanl Office to include TOPEND if they would like to be on the e-list.

Conference reports:

Barbara to ask people who have recently received financial support to attend conferences (ie. Louis Phelps, Di Wilcox, Pam McKean, Stelios Podias and Vicki Chmielewski) if they would like to give a brief report back to the group of 10 minutes each on Wednesday 20 February between 5:00pm-6:00pm and/or provide an electronic copy of their conference report for the e-list.

VALA:

Judith has discussed VALA Presentation with Pippa who is willing to provide a presentation. Need to arrange presentation for after February 2002. Lyn informed that Pippa will be providing a report on her travel scholarship at the PLNT meeting on 31 January.

PLNT:

30-31 January 2002, PLNT meeting. Lyn requested TOPEND support and organisation for a dinner speaker on 31 January. Considering venues such as Rydges which is $35 per head.

TOPEND agreed to provide a dinner speaker with a motivational theme. Lyn requires the speakers name and presentation title by end of November. Accommodation at Rydges for the speaker has been quoted as $95 per night and airfares are approximately $2500.

Ruth will contact Alan Bundy and Jennefer Nicholson regarding suggestions for speakers. The group will consider supporting a few people to attend the PLNT open seminar day.

Conferences:

National Policy Conference subjects:

Ruth sent an e-mail about the future direction of ALIA conferences. Some members are concerned about the cancellation of the specials conferences and the broadness of the ALIA biennial conferences.

Board of Education:

The Board no longer exists, however course accreditation still apparently occurs, but we are unsure how.

For further information Ruth suggest that members read John Levetts article in the Australian Library Journal.

Draft Information Bill:

Is open for public comment. Ruth has sent it to the ALIA National Office and Alan Bundy for comment.

NTG Structure:

NTLIS is now under the Department of Community Development, Sport and Cultural Affairs, due to the NT Government restructure this week.

Library Week:

Will be on 20-27 May 2002.

Financial support:

An application has been received and was tabled. The committee agreed to support Lois Phelps funding support of $190.00 for registration at the National Storytellers Conference. Linda will notify Lois of outcome and request invoice (preferably the original if possible) for reimbursement.

Meeting conclusion:

No other business, meeting concluded at 7pm.
