Keynote speakers
We are pleased to announce Gillian Hallam and Roxanne Missingham as the
Keynote speakers for the 5th Alia Top End Symposium.
Gillian Hallam is Associate Professor and Faculty Fellow in the Faculty
of Information Technology at the Queensland University of Technology.
She teaches in the areas of information retrieval, reference and
information services, collection and access management and professional
practice. Her current research activities focus on workforce planning
issues in the library and information sector. Gillian is also engaged in
the area of teaching and learning research and has won a number of
university teaching awards. She has a deep interest in professional
development, mentoring and continuing education for information
professionals. Gillian was president of the ALIA 2005-2006 and she is a
member of both ALIA's Education and Workforce Planning Standing
Committee and the IFLA Education and Training Standing Committee.
Gillian is also Fellow of the Higher Education Research & Development
Society of Australasia (HERDSA).
Roxanne Missingham is currently President of ALIA and Parliamentary
Librarian, Australian Parliamentary Library. She is responsible for the
delivery of research and information services to the Parliament,
including approximately 80 staff in the Research Branch and 60 in
Information Access Branch. Formerly Assistant Director General, Resource
Sharing Division, National Library of Australia where she was
responsible for the Libraries Australia/Kinetica service. She has a
long career in libraries and IT focused on the development of digital
delivery and digital services. She has been a library educator, library
manager and researcher and is a keen quilter (mostly in her
imagination).
