8:00am Tuesday 12 September 2006, Eat Street Café, Gawler Place

Present

Hayley Gamble, Cindy Martin, Andrew Meier, Caryl Armstrong.

Apologies

Benjamin Wheal, Tanya Hook, Marie Francis, Silvia Muscardin.

Minutes of last meeting

No feedback has been forthcoming from Chair of Business Information Management. Neither has ALIA SA committee been involved in discussions to date. Hayley is unsure whether ALIA National Office has been contacted on the issue.
ACTION: Nil.

Library tour was held at CASR on 25th July 2006. Attended by about 10 people, was an interesting and informative evening. Thanks are extended to Andrew for his involvement in coordinating the tour.

Hayley has provided feedback to ALIA SA committee re: selection criteria for next years Library Achiever of the Year Award.

Investigation has found that ALIA e-lists do not provide as many features as Yahoo.
ACTION: Hayley to set up a trial Yahoo list for the committee. Usefulness and ease of access will be monitored before a decision is made by the whole committee on their preferred method of communicating.

Review of 'Troubled Waters' seminar

The seminar, held 15 August 2006, was well attended. The speakers were entertaining and informative, the topics discussed of relevance to the sector. A big thank you is extended to Caryl Armstrong and Silvia Muscardin for their coordination of the event.

Hayley has forwarded letters of thanks to the three speakers, on behalf of the committee.

Caryl reported that Heather Layton has indicated willingness to be involved in future ALIA Speicals SA events.

A write up also appeared in InCite.

Health report
The Government Special Libraries group has been approached by CAVAL to create a Consortium for discounts on training service. The South Australian Health libraries Consortium would consider joining this consortium. ALIA Speicals SA could also possibly benefit from joining.
ACTION: Caryl to investigate further.

Law report
Sorry - Hayley didn't take enough notes J. Cindy to provide e-mail update to group.

ALIA SA report
Hayley missed the last meeting, but sent an email to the committee asking them to consider joint coordination of one event per year with ALIA Speicals SA. ALIA SA had previously discussed the possibility of a 'how to' blogging session, and this was highlighted as one event ALIA Speicals SA could be involved in.
ACTION: Hayley to follow up with ALIA SA committee.

Future planning and cross collaboration

Ideas for future events include:

  1. Five - ten things I wish I knew when I started out / Things I have learned in my career (possible collaboration with SALIN on this?)

  2. Pathways from librarianship to other careers

  3. Blogging event / How to promote use & foster online communities (possible collaboration with ALIA SA)

  4. The ins and outs of the tendering process

Recruitment / committee numbers

Benjamin has been actively promoting ALIA Speicals SA committee membership to his students. There are a couple of 'bites' for next year.

Need to target specific individuals to ensure a good cross-section of the information profession is represented.

A few people / services identified, to be contacted by those on the committee who are known to them.

Feedback to ALIA - NAC / CPD

Time did not permit a detailed discussion of this. Held over to next meeting.

Refer to copy of e-mail forwarded to Christine Cother with 'requests' for ALIA to be discussed at the NAC.

Any other business

Nil.

Next meeting will be held : Tuesday November 2006, 6:00pm Café Amore, Hindmarsh Square
