Meeting minutes

Committee meeting held on Tuesday 2 May 2006 Eat Street Café, Gawler Place

Present

Hayley Gamble, Benjamin Wheal, Cindy Martin, Sylvia Muscardin.

Apologies

Andrew Meier, Rachel Teesdale-Smith, Tanya Hook.

Chair of Business Information Management Paula Swatman was unable to attend.

Action

Hayley to draft a letter to Paula Swatman, outlining the issues the group feels are important to highlight for future curriculum planning. Draft will be circulated to all committee members for input / comments / changes prior to being sent to Paula.

Hayley reported that ALIA SA committee had referred issue of ALIA representation at Chair BIM meetings to ALIA National Office. No update has been provided to date.
Benjamin floated the idea of making an approach independent of ALIA i.e. to approach PS on behalf of an ad-hoc group of interested special libraries rather than on behalf of ALIA.

Hayley to contact Janetta Mascilongo to obtain update on situation.

Specials memorabilia

Benjamin reported that all group memorabilia have now been lodged with the State Library.

Group name

Action Hayley will send the name-change ideas to the entire specials e-list for feedback and will consider the mission statement too, to reflect name changes. Suggested mission statement will be forwarded to all committee members for comment.

ALIA SA representative report

Library Achiever of the Year Award is now planned for July to coincide with visit from ALIA board representatives.
The Quiz night has been moved to May.
Janetta Mascilongo is handing over the convenor role to Kate Sinclair and Liz Walkley-Hall (joint convenors) as of this month.

Law Libraries representative report

Cindy reported LL is organizing a briefing session on parliamentary process (for May 3).

ISLD report

The ISLD dinner went very well, with 10 attendees. Report was provided in the last issue of Specials e-news.

CASR Library Tour

Andrew Meier is keen to organise a tour of his relocated library in June, and will need some volunteers to arrive early to assist him in setting up.
Action:Andrew to clear security arrangements at CASR
Hayley to liaise with Andrew on setting a date

Other Business

The Victorian Specials group is seeking contributions for their quarterly print newsletter from interstate colleagues.
