Meeting minutes

Committee meeting held on Tuesday 6 March 2006 at 6:00pm at Café Amore, Hindmarsh Square

1. Present

Present: Hayley Gamble, Benjamin Wheal, Carol Armstrong, Andrew Meier, Cindy Martin, Sylvia Muscardin, Catherine Daniel, Marie Francis.

2. Reports

Treasurer
Nothing to report.

ALIA SA
Hayley ran through the ALIA 2006 program. Coming soon in March (23rd?) is a Nuts and Bolts event introducing the inner workings of ALIA governance and committees to newer members. For Library and Information Week (May) ALIA SA will be presenting the "SA Library Achiever of the Year Award. Later events include return of the Quiz Night (July), National Advisory Congress (Sept), possibly a regional conference (Oct) and the end of year/xmas function (Dec).

Law Libraries
Cindy Martin, who is our Law Libraries rep raised the issue that they may be looking towards organising and opening up some shared events in 2006.

3. Election of office bearers

We probably need a treasurer. It's a low demand task.

Money can be handled independently of ALIA or we can seek approval to dip into ALIA funds (in which case we will need to submit an estimated budget proposal. We are not obliged to make a huge profit as long as its all done responsibly etc.)

4. e-list (Andrew)

Andrew asked with regards to the E-list: do we want "everything" forwarded and posted to the list or should we exercise some discretion over what is and is not relevant. We opted for the latter.

5. International Special Librarians Day (Event) (Hayley)

13 April (one day after my birthday) is ISLD. Rachel Teesdale-Smith is ascertaining if we can go on a tour of a Hindley Street bookshop.

ACTION - HG to liaise with RTS to see how this is progressing.

6. Any other Business

Box of committee memorabilia (Benjamin)
We have a box of meeting minutes and correspondence dating back to 2001.
The box also includes our name tags!
Action - HG to liaise with SLSA regarding how do we get this archived.

Chair of Business Information Systems (UNISA) (Benjamin)
After writing to the Chair about possible contributions to curriculum content in January 2006 we received no reply.
Action - HG to liaise with Janetta Mascilongo (ALIA SA) about BW representing ALIA Specials (and ALIA SA) in future liaisons/meetings involving the curriculum.

A new name Do we want a name that reflects not just special libraries, but all specialised information services and associated professions
ACTION - All committee members to think about adopting a new name for Specials and submitting them to the group. The cheesier the acronym, the better.
