ALIA Special Libraries Section (SA)

Meeting minutes

3:00pm 14 April 2005. Committee meeting held online.

5. Reports

5.1 ISLD report
Silvia reported that ETC Café has been booked for 21 April for 20 people. She has 8 RSVP's, Andrew has 7. Numbers must be finalised by Tuesday 19 - replies to Silvia or Andrew. Publicised to specials e-list and SALIN. It was agreed that e-mail reminders would be sent to ALIASA, OPALS (Silvia), Health (Caryl). Heather Dalby has put the event on ALIASA events calendar. Andrew to ask Vicki to publicise to Law Libraries. Rachel to contact library students. Andrew will circulate his original e-mail. Silvia offered to contact Bianca Bronzin (UniSA) on behalf of the mentoring group. (Blan commented that ALIASA are attempting to revive the mentoring group, which is currently not very active.)

5.2 Moving Libraries seminar
Marie and Blan reported that Hayley is contacting suggested speakers at History Trust and Health Dept to check availability before setting a date. A panel session will be held in June, with contributions from two or three speakers. Venues are being considered. Andrew suggested approaching suppliers such as RAECO to subsidise the cost of refreshments. Caryl suggested also inviting library movers, such as Chess.

5.3 Convenor's report
Rachel had an e-mail from Laura Cram at Magill, who wants to consult about possible directions for the GradDip/Masters in Information Studies. It was agreed the committee should set aside half an hour of a face to face committee meeting for this. Rachel to get some pointers from Laura and e-mail committee before the meeting. Important for us to liaise now that there is no bachelor course.

5.4 ALIA SA rep report

ALIA SA's big night out, April 28 welcoming Helen Livingston, Director of Library Services at UniSA, and Alan Smith, Director of the State Library of SA, and farewelling Alan Bundy. (Kate Sinclair receiving the Metcalfe Medallion.) Publicity has gone out to all groups.

Library Week Quiz Night May 27 - groups of eight - possibility of forming a table.

Regional conference to be held in Whyalla later in the year.

Local liaison officer has not been appointed - ALIA head office may be approached to readvertise.

5.5 Health libraries report

Caryl reported that SA Health Libraries group did not seek endorsement from ALIA this year.

The group are involved in a project called 'Chasing the sun' as part of a virtual reference system for doctors, supporting doctors in UK and Australia when their own libraries are unavailable after hours.

Regionalisation of health areas could mean library amalgamations.
