She has also had an e-mail from Liz Walkely re a joint event; a seminar on 'dealing with the media' with the special libraries group. Please see the attachment for more details. If anyone would like to be part of the working party please contact Jenny.

2. Treasurers report
Current balance $2712.85.

We have received payments from everybody that attended the display workshop except Charles Sturt. Charles Sturt have also not invoiced us for the use of Hindmarsh library for this event. Julie to investigate.

3. Events update

3.1 Tea Tree Gully Library visit and group planning session

Tea Tree Gully event all organised except catering. Aaraon has been delegated to organise the catering. He will be give a full RSVP list closer to May.

3.2 Retail technology display workshops

Jenny contacted Austin Phoenix from Douglas Mawson TAFE. He told her to send our requirements to Trevor Gregory from Douglas Mawson who will be able to send us an outline and price of what they can offer. The workshop(s) would have to be held during the July semester break at Croydon TAFE. Jenny to continue to co-ordinate.

4. Other business

4.1 Membership There was concern raised about the lack of apologies for this meeting, and the fact that attendance generally is still quite small. We need to find ways to raise the profile of the group within library circles. Some suggestions for consideration are:

  • Send representatives from the group to library staff meetings or site meetings to promote us.
  • See if the employment agencies that deal with libraries; for instance Maxima, Westaff and Scansearch; would be willing to help with promotion.
  • Contact Laura Cram at UniSA. To promote within library studies
  • Promote via the ALIA mentoring group if that is still functioning.

4.2 New York Public libraries award.

Kim showed a page from the New York Times showing the above awards and suggested that something like this may be good here to tie in with 2003 at your library. Julie suggested that this could be a good finale for the year. Jenny to show to Clasa and Teresa Brook and Fiona Lang from Lang-Hill marketing who are co-ordinating 2003 at your library.

5 Next Meeting

Thursday 1 May at Tea Tree Gully library. Meeting plus annual planning session. 6:00pm-8:00pm.
