ALIA Queensland OPALs
January-June 2003 report

The activities the group conducted in 2003 are as follows:
- 12 February 2003 5:30pm until 7:00pm at The One Umbrella Group, Unit 6/2 Old Cleveland Road, Stones Corner, hosted by Deirdre Gibb. 13 attendees were given an overview of what TOU does, and then the rest of the meeting was devoted to updating members on what was happening at each attendee's library/information centre. A general discussion of current issues also took place.
- 18 and 27 March 2003 at State Library of Queensland. On each of these dates an internet update skills workshop was conducted for QOPALs by Helen Partridge and Jill McTaggart. There were 12 attendees at each workshop. The workshops ran for 2 hours each.
- 2 April 2003 8:30am at the Department of Corrective Services Training and Development Centre Wacol, hosted by Robyn Sanders. One of Robyn's colleagues provided a talk on education services for prisoners, and a tour of the library followed. There were fourteen QOPALs in attendance.
- 4 June 2003 5:30pm until 7:00pm hosted by Kristina Williams of Softlink, at Central City Library Theatrette. Kristina presented a seminar on issues to consider when preparing to purchase a new LIMS. There were 17 attendees and 4 apologies.
- 16 September 2003 12:30pm until 2:00pm, hosted by Ian Maddox at The United Grand Lodge of Queensland. There were 17 attendees and 9 apologies. In addition to general OPAL business (reporting on who was doing what, new websites worth knowing about, forthcoming seminars, etc), a presentation by Graham White OAM, Grand Secretary UGLQ was given and a tour of the Grand Lodge followed.
- 15 October 2003 12:30pm until 2:00pm, hosted by Helen Gambley at Hopgood Ganim Lawyers. 13 attendees, 6 apologies. Helen presented a seminar on moving libraries.
- 14 November 2003 5:30pm until 9:00pm, organised by Lynda Colquhoun, end of year dinner held at Decks Seafood restaurant Southbank. 13 attendees, 9 apologies.
The proposed activities for 2004 are as follows:
Again, it is proposed that no budget will be required to conduct these events.
